Hello, I’m Kate, the creative behind Kate Hana Artistry.
A quick fun fact before we dive in: Hana is my middle name. It’s traditionally pronounced Hon-ah in Hawaiian and Swedish (I’m Swedish and Italian), but I’ve always pronounced it Haan-ah… which led to a brief but very real identity crisis a few years ago. At this point, call me whatever feels natural — I’ll answer. I’m polite like that. (Aquarius energy.)
My work is rooted in intention. I believe makeup should enhance what already exists, elevating your features while honoring your skin, your comfort, and your individuality. The goal is never to mask, but to refine, creating a look that feels like an A+ version of you.
Born and raised in Bend, Oregon, this place has deeply shaped how I work: grounded, thoughtful, and community-driven. I’ve been on a sober journey since 2021, a path that has influenced both my personal life and my artistry with clarity, presence, and purpose. I’ve been honored to be named one of the Top 3 Makeup Artists in Oregon by Oregon Wedding Magazine, consistently nominated as Best Makeup Artist in Central Oregon, and most recently, nominated as a Top 5 Makeup Artist for 2025 by Oregon Wedding Day Magazine — recognition I hold with immense gratitude.
My career began over 16 years ago as a MAC Cosmetics Makeup Artist, where I received extensive training across everyday beauty, editorial looks, and all ages, skin tones, and genders. During my time with MAC, I traveled for events, taught makeup classes, and led trend-focused education sessions. In 2019, I became a licensed aesthetician, allowing me to merge skin health with makeup artistry for a truly skin-forward approach.
Since 2021, I’ve worked within local clean beauty boutiques and companies, deepening my knowledge of non-toxic, performance-driven products. This background allows me to thoughtfully curate routines and makeup looks that support skin health without sacrificing longevity, polish, or wear.
I also work closely with Axiology Beauty, a woman-owned, vegan, plant-based clean beauty brand whose values align deeply with my own. I support Axiology through shade matching for online clients and local boutiques, helping customers feel confident selecting products that truly work for their skin.
Beyond shade matching, I’ve collaborated with their team to curate makeup sets and assist in refining the shade range for their mushroom-based foundation, Fungdation — a skin-forward, hydrating formula designed to perform beautifully while supporting overall skin health. Being part of this process allows me to bridge artistry, education, and formulation awareness, ensuring clients experience clean beauty that performs at a professional level.
This partnership continues to inform how I approach makeup: thoughtful, inclusive, and rooted in skin integrity — without compromising wear, finish, or confidence.
In April, I’ll be heading to New York City for New York Fashion Week, working alongside an elite team of makeup artists, hairstylists, and nail artists. Editorial experiences like this continue to shape my work — blending high-level artistry with real-world, wearable beauty.
Collaboration is central to what I do. For the past seven and a half years, I’ve partnered closely with Kelsey Garrison with The Garrison Collective, forming Partners in Glam, a trusted hair and makeup duo for weddings, elopements, and photoshoots. While we operate as independent businesses, when schedules align we offer a seamless, elevated experience rooted in calm efficiency, professionalism, and thoughtful execution. There are added perks when booking us together, though each service is reserved separately to ensure availability.
Outside of work, my life is anchored by family — my husband Josh, Executive Chef at The Jackalope Grill in downtown Bend, our children Ruby and Corbin, and the animals who fill our home. We recently lost our sweet boy, Ranger Larry, to cancer in January 2025. He was our Mini Australian Shepherd, my constant companion, and a presence that shaped the rhythm of our days. His loss has deepened my appreciation for connection, gentleness, and showing up fully — values I carry into my work every day. Our home is still full of life, shared with our cats Lady, Hobbes, and our newest addition, Freya. Yes, I am proudly a crazy cat lady.
I also recently completed a meaningful four-year term with the Central Oregon Wedding Association, where I served as Social Media Director. Supporting a nonprofit rooted in education, community, and professional growth shaped so much of my professional journey and reinforced my belief in collaboration over competition.
Whether I’m working weddings, elopements, boudoir sessions at Babe City Studio, editorial shoots, or private lessons, my focus remains the same: creating an experience that feels calm, intentional, and personal. I value trust, collaboration, and giving you the space to feel confident, comfortable, and fully yourself.
I look forward to connecting and learning how I can support your makeup and skincare goals.
